The care and management of horses has always included the management of internal parasites. As technology has progressed, the medications developed have become more and more broad in the spectrum of of parasites they can eradicate. Fenbendazole is a member of the benzimidizole group of anti-parasite medications which make it a relatively broad spectrum product. The PowerPak is a double dose and should be administered once a year to your horse. Check with your veterinarian for more specifics on your yearly worming schedule.

 

Ivermectin Paste

Ivermectin is a paste wormer which kills 35 species and stages of worms and bots combined. It kills all three stages of the two most common bot species. It should be used six times per year for broad spectrum parasite control. This is for use on all horses, including broodmares, stallions and foals without age restriction. One syringe will deworm a horse up to 1,250 pounds.

Strongid Paste

This paste is a potent equine wormer containing pyrantel - a compound from the tetrahydropyrimidine class. This paste removes and controls most common and damaging internal parasites including bloodworms, small strongyles, pinworms and large roundworms. Strongid paste is approved for the removal and control of mature infections of large strongyles, pinworms and large roundworms as well as small strongyles in horses and ponies. Its key features are the control of a variety of equine worms, its effective against benzimidazole-resistant small strongyles, its chemical class is unrelated to other classes of equine anthelmintics, it is used in rotation for equine worming programs, it is contained in a syringe which treats up to 1200 pounds of body weight and is disposable for your convenience.

Daily Dewormers

A daily supplemental dewormer continuously breaks the parasite lifecycle, stopping parasite damage before it starts. Pyrantel tartrate, the active ingredient in most daily dewormers provides a constant protection against 18 species and stages of large strongyles, small strongyles, roundworms, ascarids, and pinworms. These supplements are very palatable and easy to feed. Just mix in with your horses daily grain ration. These products are safe for horses of all ages, including foals, mares and stallions. Studies also suggest that a daily dose of pyrantel tartrate may help decrease the risk of colic.
