There are several equestrian organizations that support equestrian athletes. The USEF otherwise known as the United States Equestrian Federation. The USEF is the governing body of all equestrian sports that supports equestrian athletes, promotes international excellence, and hopes to build for the future of equestrian sports.The eight high performance equestrian disciplines supported by the United States Equestrian Team Foundation are dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, para-equestrian, reining, show jumping and vaulting. The USDF, United States Dressage Federation is dedicated to the education, the recognition of achievement and the promotion of the sport of dressage. The USDF was founded in 1973 as a non-profit, tax exempt corporation that consists of more than 45,000 memberships, 33,000 members, and 129 affiliated organizations. The USDF was established for the purpose of promoting and encouraging a high standard of accomplishment in dressage throughout the United States, primarily through education programs. The USDF also administers a national year-end award program based on test percentages that horse and riders earn during the year. Award opportunities exist for every level of competition, and there are special categories for different breeds, as well as for junior/young riders, adult amateurs, and riders aged 50 and over.
The NRHA, National Reining Horse Association, was founded in 1966, an organization dedicated to the promotion of the reining horse. Reining is a judged event designed to show the athletic ability of a ranch type horse within the confines of a show arena. In NRHA competition, riders are required to run one of the ten approved patterns included in the NRHA handbook.
The USHJA, United States Hunter Jumper Association represents the interests of all levels of participants in order to promote and enhance the hunter and jumper disciplines and provide educational experiences in a manner will benefit both horse and members.
The Jockey Club, is a breed registry for Thoroughbred Horses in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. The organization is dedicated to the improvement of thoroughbred breeding and racing, and it fulfills that mandate by serving many segments of the industry through its family of companies. The Jockey Club maintains offices in Lexington, Kentucky and New York City.
